Scott McKenzie

Spread the One Hit Wonder love

This Week’s One-Hit Wonder (OHW) is ‘San Fransisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)’ (#2 1967) by Scott McKenzie (1939-2012 73). Born Philip Wallach Blondheim III in Jacksonville Florida, Scott was a childhood friend of John  Phillips who wrote this song and would go on to form ‘The Mamas and the Papas’. The song has always been associated with social phenomenon that occurred during the summer of 1967, when as many as 100,000 people, mostly young people sporting hippie fashions of dress and behaviour, converged in San Francisco’s neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury.
